2013 tcm SUTS blogathon Day 30: Kirk Douglas

Welcome to DAY THIRTY of the 2013 Summer Under the Stars blogathon!  Wow. Only one more day after this.

Today we will spotlight bloggers who will spotlight Kirk Douglas!

First, a little Kirk Douglas trivia … According to IMDb (so it MUST be true), Douglas turned down lead roles in “Cat Ballou” and “Stalag 17” that went to Lee Marvin and William Holden (respectively).  Those actors each won Best Actor Oscars for those roles.

SUTS and Oscar: In addition to receiving an Honorary Oscar in 1996 (“… for 50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community.” – AMPAS), Doulas was nominated for three Oscars:

Best Actor, 1949’s Champion (lost to Broderick Crawford for All the King’s Men)

Best Actor, 1952’s The Bad and the Beautiful  (lost to Gary Cooper for High Noon)

Best Actor, 1956’s Lust for Life (lost to Yul Brynner for The King and I)

Now onto the blogging!
